Maintaining a safe and secure environment

We maintain a 24/7, 365 days a year presence with a staffed reception, patrols and monitoring designed to ensure safety and security on campus. The Security Centre is equipped 24/7 to respond to emergency situations and includes CCTV and other crime prevention equipment. All Security Officers are trained in first aid.

We provide escorts for emergency vehicles on campus, monitor lone-worker procedures as needed, and can provide an after-dark security escort for lone persons, both on campus and to and from Falmer station.

Lost property

Lost property will be held safely and securely by the Security team if found, until it is claimed. If you have lost an item on campus you can visit the Security reception, or contact your local reception if you lost an item in campus residences.

Perishables such as food, drink and items of clothing will not be held.

Lost property is retained for three months only after being handed to Security. Any unclaimed property after this time will be disposed of.

Assistance out of hours

The Security Control Room is open and occupied 24/7, 365 days a year.

The Security team can provide an out-of-hours escort, either across campus or from Falmer train station, e.g. when it’s dark or for lone individuals. Contact the team via phone or e-mail, ideally in advance so the team can meet you upon arrival.

Please note that the escort provision is to support campus users with feeling safe out-of-hours, and may be on foot. The escort service is not available to support with moving luggage or other items.
